DEMPSEY

A new champion was crowned in a fight I shall never forget.  Manassa Jack that day was the greatest human tornado I’d ever seen in the ring.  Dempsey’s eyes were on one man only.  He was the classic gladiator.  From a hobo Dempsey had risen to lay hold of the most valuable crown in boxing.  And with that crown, there arrived the Golden Era of Boxing, with its fabulous gates and outstanding matches.

Fleischer/Dempsey, 1972
