The Fernie Swastikas were a women’s ice hockey team formed in British Columbia in 1922. Their uniform comprised white knickers and red sweaters, and used as their logo the swastika, which before World War II was a common religious symbol, said to represent luck and success. There were other teams named after swastikas in Edmonton and Windsor. The Swastikas won the Alpine Cup at the Banff Winter Carnival in 1923.
