During their performance of hit single ‘Seaside Semtex’ at the inaugural Fryfest in 1986, the Punk Pirates burned an effigy of prime minister Margaret Thatcher on stage. The fire quickly got out of control, sweeping through an adjacent camping field and fusing the electrics, forcing the festival to be abandoned. Headliners at subsequent editions of the annual festival included Madonna, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, and Lil’ Kim.
