Tex and Delia Sprule were sibling outlaws who roamed the Fryup moors in the late 19th century, committing a series of criminal acts including robberies, kidnappings and murders. The couple evaded capture for almost two decades with the help of locals, whom they often rewarded for their complicity. They were ambushed in Tripsdale in 1894, and sentenced to death by hanging. Numerous films and ballads have been written about their exploits, and a 2016 film, Tex & Delia, won the Golden Owl at the 2016 Tirana International Film Festival.
