SPOUT

From the pretty ivied inn facing the church a path leads down to the West Beck in a charming setting of rocks and trees.  Here is Mallyan Spout, a waterfall 70 feet high, looking like a gossamer veil when it glistens in the sun.  It is one of several little waterfalls we come upon in these moorland glens.  Walking down with the stream we are soon at Beck Hole, a tiny hamlet as lovely as its situation, noted for rare flowers.  We found village folk playing the old game of quoits on its small green.
