THE NORTH RIDING PROJECT

The Mushy Peas was a teenage gang that terrorised Fryup in the mid to late 1980s. Formed by brothers Benny and Toto Sprule at Fryup High School, the gang’s activities evolved to include assault, arson, blackmail and extortion. After a fall-out, Toto Sprule left to form his own gang, the Baked Beans, leading to a series of violent clashes as both gangs fought for supremacy, and culminating in Benny Sprule’s suspicious death in a motorcycle accident in 1990.
