THE NORTH RIDING PROJECT

Skinningrove, tucked in a deep ravine beneath its hilltop steelworks, boasts an improbable place in FA Cup history. The Skinningrove Works team entered the qualifying rounds of the competition for four consecutive years in the 1950s, losing all their matches without conceding a goal.  In their final appearance in 1953, they were beaten 18-0 at Ferryhill Athletic.  It remains the heaviest post-War defeat in the competition, ensuring Skinningrove a place in the FA Cup record books.
