THE NORTH RIDING PROJECT

Fryup’s fish and chip shop, Cod Whores, is the only two time winner of the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Awards.  It serves six different strengths of curry sauce, and its mushy pea fritters earned praise from Anthony Bourdain, who listed a handful of life experiences he would sacrifice in order to eat them again: namely, a Jefferson Airplane concert, some acid trips, reading The Catcher in the Rye, and his first sexual experience.

Of course, the post-war development of cheap luxuries has been a very fortunate thing for our rulers.  It is quite likely that fish and chips, art-silk stockings, tinned salmon, cut-price chocolate (five two-ounce bars for sixpence), the movies, the radio, strong tea and the Football Pools have between them averted revolution.
