
They saw dens spilling over with young wolves. They found brown bears gorging upon the carcasses of bison. They roasted fish over fires and sliced their bellies open to reveal pale flesh rippling with fat. They ate fine veal and beef, and venison and beaver tales. These were the days of plenty; the world an open casket of delicacies and delights to sample. They shot down more fresh meat than they could ever hope to eat.
