Freyja-Sonr, translated from the Fryoese as Sons of Freyja, was a group responsible for a series of arson attacks against holiday cottages and second homes in the Fryup region between 1979 and 1990. The group was supported by significant elements of local public opinion, which blamed second home-owners for driving up prices and ruining fragile local economies. Despite a series of large-scale police investigations, the perpetrators remained unpunished. In 1990, Fryup’s long-serving member of parliament, Peregrine Thorsby, was targeted with a letter bomb, which failed to detonate.
