There are two great appeals to the Étoile du Chad restaurant: the milk shakes and the view from the rooftop bar. The combination propelled the Étoile to great popularity durig the last bout of fighting in N’Djamena. Snipers could enjoy a fresh papaya shake while spotting targets across town. Elaborate patterns of automatic weapons fire decorated the walls. Toyota pickups with machine-gun accessories cruised the streets below like sharks.
