DEPTFORD

The Deptford Tavern, commonly known as The Deptford, is the oldest public house in Fryup, dating back to the early 18th century.  Once a notorious meeting place of smugglers and pirates, the Deptford achieved notoriety in the 1980s as the venue for early gigs by the punk rock band, The Punk Pirates.  In 2002, The Deptford featured in a Channel Four series, Britain’s Toughest Pubs. It has been closed on numerous occasions for licensing breaches, and in 1998 was badly damaged in an arson attack.
