Romany women seem to share characteristics with the women of North Africa. From puberty to early maturity they frequently possess an iridescent, olive-skinned beauty, sensuous bodies and luminous brown eyes. Rare blooms, indeed, and closely guarded by their menfolk. But few manage to maintain for long the qualities of youth. Theirs seems to be a fragile beauty, easy prey to the ravages of maternity, wind, rain and sun.
