VULTURES II

In 2002, the Portuguese artist João Onofre set a vulture loose in his studio.  In the nine-minute video he captured, the animal pecks at the papers Onofre has stuck up across the wall, knocks books off his shelves and flies awkwardly back and forth across the confined space making loud, agitated sounds.  The resulting video shows a symbol of death and destruction becoming a reality in a space known for artistic production.  A wild animal disoriented by the small studio where wild artists orient themselves and their ideas.
