FRYUP AIR

Fryup Air was an airline established in 1996 by a consortium headed by the Fryup-born entrepreneur Dirk Thorsby. It operated charter flights between Fryup Aerodrome and a small number of European destinations, using a small fleet of Tupolev T24 aircraft. Fryup Air ceased operations in 2000, shortly after the hijacking of flight FRY014 from La Rochelle to Fryup.

Fryup Air was criticised for a racy advertising campaign, Fly High Sizzle, and gimmicks including scantily-clad stewardesses and on-board beauty contests, whose prizes included trips to the cockpit.  The airline was was heavily censured by aviation authorities for operating an infamous ‘foam flight’ to Marbella in 1999, during which a number of foam cannons were activated.  The following year, Fryup Air became the first UK airline to be banned for failing to meet EU regulatory oversight standards.
