I wasn’t quite sure what a flasher did, but there had been a report in the Times and Star about a bloke exposing himself and stealing knickers from people’s clotheslines. This struck me as funny, not dangerous. I presumed flashing just meant opening your flies, giving everyone a quick look, so what was wrong with that? Sounded harmless. They made jokes about it on comedy programmes on the telly, like Benny Hill.
