PRIMO

There were no former professionals working the booth on the evening of 15 March 1928.  Instead there was a young giant in torn shorts and frayed rope sandals who managed by brute strength alone to overcome whoever accepted his challenge to wrestle, box or lift weights.  He was billed as ‘Juan the Unbeatable Spaniard’, but before leaving the fairground Journée learned he was in fact a 21-year-old Italian named Primo Carnera.

Mullally/Primo, 1991
