THE NORTH RIDING PROJECT

FryupX formed a regular stage of the British Motocross Championship until it was removed from the calendar in 1984 following the deaths of two competitors.  The race, staged in Fryup quarry and notorious for features including Hell Ridge and Dead Man’s Drop, continued in unregulated form, attracting huge crowds.  Multiple winners include local riders Duke Thorsby, who was killed in the event in 1990, and Kirk Sykes.  Sykes courted tabloid attention in 1996 as the boyfriend of the adult movie star Kola Kubes, who revealed that Sykes always raced naked beneath his bike leathers.
