
There was something in Sid that made the script all his own, that transcended his self-destruction. In his thuggish poses and rebarbative discourse, Sid announced himself as a particular kind of English archetype – the intelligent hooligan whose stylised sarcasm flays the established, the bourgeois and the boring, telling a truth this country never wants to hear.
