On August 15, a letter was delivered to Fryup Hall claiming that Lana Thorsby was being held hostage by a group calling itself the Fryup Liberation Front, and would be released when a series of demands were met, including the delivery of £5,000 in cash, and the cessation of the development of the statics site.  Five days later, a Kwik Save van was hijacked on the road to Fryup Hall by a group of individuals wearing balaclavas and waving weapons.  The van driver, John Wood, was ordered out of the vehicle, whereupon its contents were emptied and the van pushed down a nearby ravine.  Wood claimed that his approximately half-dozen assailants were female, and wore bikinis and balaclavas.  The exception was Lana Thorsby, who appeared to be a willing participant.  The case made national headlines, and a manifesto issued by the FLF appeared in the local Gazette.
