SAVAGES

All day Revd Singh and his party lingered there.  Then, just as the sun was setting, a wolf stole out from one of the tunnels in the mound.  Another followed, and then another, and another, and some wolf-cubs trotting along behind.  After the cubs, the ghosts came out.  There were two of them, both horribly ugly, the heads like large, shapeless globes within which, among the matted hair, a small fragment of face could be seen: a human face with brilliant, bestial eyes.
